Keeping everyone safe

Whilst we focus on smiles and having fun, we take very seriously the responsibility of caring for the most important person in a parent's life, their child.

Camp Australia's services comply and surpass all National, State and Local regulations and laws to ensure kids have access to the care they need and deserve.

The detailed policies, procedures, staff training and state-of-the-art enrolment and record keeping systems we use have been developed over 25 years in the industry.  This all adds up to peace of mind for schools, communities, families and the Camp Australia Team.

Program operations are focused on maintaining appropriate staffing ratios at all times.  To ensure the highest safety for children and staff, this can include times where extra and specialist staff are provided. This may include:

  • Support for children with additional needs;
  • Support and mentor new staff;
  • Increased supervision for a particular site or program area; and
  • Activities that may have an increased risk (such as an excursion off-site during holiday clubs).

All Camp Australia Before and After School care programs are based on-site at the school.  This avoids unnecessary transportation of kids and the associated risks.

Staff

The Camp Australia Team undergoes extensive training and assessment to ensure the wellbeing of all children.

This includes training in children's services laws and regulations, child protection, first aid, CPR and Anaphylaxis Management.  Additional training is provided on Camp Australia's detailed policies and procedures.

All training is conducted in-house by the Camp Australia nationally accredited Registered Training Organisation.

Operational support

To assist in daily operations Camp Australia programs are provided with a daily session checklist, including Maintenance, Health, Safety and Compliance, Rolls and Timesheets. These checklist are compulsory and monitored by Regional Managers and other support staff.

Items included in the checklist are:

  • Visual site inspection and check for any hazards at the program. Any issues are addressed immediately, or program activities are changed to avoid the hazard area until it is remedied. All facility repairs are reported through the school maintenance procedures;
  • Ensuring children are signed in and out of the service and the time noted by the guardian. Only those nominated on the enrolment form are authorised to collect children;
  • Complying with Regulations in relation to illness, administration of medications and injury at all times;
  • Complying with Occupational Health and Safety Regulations;
  • Adhering to recommended exclusion periods for infectious diseases, as described in the Infectious Diseases Policy and Staying Healthy in Child Care;
  • Compliance with Government Food Handling Regulations;
  • Wash hands before and after the preparation of any snacks for consumption by users of the Service;
  • All kitchen utensils and benches will have been washed, sanitised and stored appropriately prior to their use in the preparation of food;
  • All non-indivually wrapped food items will be served using tongs or appropriate food serving equipment; and
  • Each child will be encouraged to wash their hands prior to snack time and participation in cooking activities.

The wellbeing and safety of kids and the Camp Australia Team is a key priority in everything we do from our policies, procedures, enrolment processes, record keeping, programing, staffing, training to healthy eating plans.
