"Program" is a funny word for us to use, because at the end of
the day the last thing we want to do is 'program the children'. In
fact, we do everything in our power to bring out the creative and
adventurous, inquisitive and playful, energetic, caring and
thoughtful side of the children. Here's how...
Before and After School Care
The "programs" are created around children's wants, parents
needs and reflective of the school community values. Indeed we see
our role as not only an extension of the school community, but also
of the family. So as each Coordinator gets to know the children,
they further tailor the activities to the children's individual
interests. This then creates an offering as diverse as the kids
themselves. So our Before and After School Care program includes
things such as:
- Outdoor play time - sport, skills development, general play and
inclusive games
- Construction and manipulative play - art and craft, cooking and
indoor games
- Creative time - Outlets such as drama and musical
appreciation
- Life skills - community involvement, role playing,
communication and social skills development
- Homework & quiet time - so when the children go home, they
are able to spend quality time with their family
- Unique experiences - children get to experience different
sports and artistic pursuits such as circus skills, yoga, fencing,
Pilates, skateboarding, martial arts, golf and calisthenics
Under the National Quality Framework (NQF), all services must
adhere to the Early Years Framework.
Our wide range of planned activities and resources adhere to
this and help to:
- Encourage interaction and develop social skills across various
age groups and cultures
- Allow for small and large group work to enhance learning
opportunities and foster healthy dynamics
- Provide exciting and innovative activities that meet each
child's developmental needs
- Encourage a safe, secure and stimulating environment that will
promote emotional, social, intellectual and physical growth
Healthy Eating
Breakfast is served daily and includes foods such as muffins,
toast, crumpets and a selection of cereals. Water and milk are
available for the children to drink. Afternoon tea follows the
FoodSmart Food Safety Program and includes a serving of fresh fruit
and vegetables, a selection of sandwiches and dry biscuits or rice
crackers with various toppings. Children may also engage in fun
cooking activities as an accompaniment to afternoon tea. All
services meet the national food safety standards and
guidelines.
