Gem is loving, wise, gentle, careful and
safety conscious.
Hobbies: Reading books and magazines, playing with her pet
lizard, volunteering at the RSPCA helping injured
animals.
Gem was born in Australia but spent a lot of her
early years living in a house in the forest just outside the
city. Gem moved down to the city to go to school but still
feels a strong connection with nature.
Now that she lives in the city, Gem spends a lot of time
learning about environmental projects like solar power and
water saving. Last holidays, Gem went on a camping trip in the
country and they drove through a wind farm with over 100 wind
turbines. After seeing that, Gem has been reading a lot
about wind farms.
Each Friday, Gem and her big brother Pete volunteer at the
RSPCA. Most Friday's Gem can't wait to get out of school to
see her animal friends at the RSPCA. Most weeks Gem and Pete
help wash the dogs and sometimes they help the vet with sick
animals. Every time they wash the dogs, Gem and Pete always
get wet because the dogs shake themselves dry and water goes
everywhere!
Gem doesn't know what she wants to do when she grows up but she
is pretty sure she wants to work with animals.

RECLYCLING, ENVIRONMENTAL AND PROTECTION OF ENDANGERED
SPECIES
Daily routines established where rubbish is sorted and either
disguarded or recycled.
Learning about our Camp Australia adopted animals gives the
children a sense of community and reinforces the importance of
caring for the environment.
INDIVIDUAL AND SMALL GROUP
Time and space provided for children to play and do things for
themselves. Uninterrupted time is vital for children to
explore ideas, theories using their imagination, creativity and
play.
