Staff Experiences

We make staff smile!

Meet two of our team members...

Laura...

Working part-time as an Outside School Hours Care Coordinator at a Melbourne Primary School provided a great fit while completing university for Laura.

On completion of her Bachelor of Psychology with a second major in family studies, Laura asked Camp Australia management if they had work available in HR, as she had just finished her studies and would love the experience. "The opportunity presented itself and they called me to come in for a day to do some administration. From there, I never left!! For about 6 months, I did Before School Care in the mornings, then came into the office and worked in HR, and then went back to After School Care between 3.15 and 6.00pm. I managed Camp Australia events most weekends during that time and I loved it!!!

"During my time in-field, I received the Star Coordinator award from Camp Australia, an appreciation award from the Primary School and a nomination for the Chris Davis Rising Star award" (an internal recognition program at Camp Australia).

"I started in Head Office full time in March 2006, doing a small amount of recruitment and administration, but mainly staffing. In the following year, my main role was emergency staffing, and I am now really enjoying my role as a Recruitment Officer."

One of our many valued staff members, Laura continues to enjoy the challenges and variety in her role.

Laura says...

"I LOVE IT!!! It's a great role as it involves everything I love; organisation, administration, creativity, and working with kids and staff!!

Dom Dom...

After a shoulder injury caused Dom Dom to seek an alternative career path, he visited the Melbourne Careers Expo and a friend spotted the Camp Australia stand saying "this would be perfect for you" (little did he know...).  Displaying all the great characteristics needed to work with children, Dom began as an OSHC Assistant and initially moved around for the first few months helping out at different schools.

In late 2008 he found his 'OSHC home' at a Melbourne Private School, first as an assistant, then as Coordinator of after school care each afternoon, whilst also continuing his role as an assistant at a Government Primary School in before school care - and now feels a part of the family at both those schools.  It was here, that the infamous "Dom Dom Squat" came into being!

Dom Dom is also a member of our Events Team and loves helping out with our exciting kids events on weekends. His highlight event of the year is working at the 2010 Foodco Conference.

An active volunteer for tCAF as well, Dom says he loves hanging out with the kids and delights in the way they see things, "Not one child sees things the same as the other - they are all special individuals!".

He also stresses that his number one rule is the most important of all, "We do what we have to do, to do what we want to do!"
